It was a Great German Car Day and it was a…
…resounding success! We had very little bad behavior from anyone and there was no yelling about anything. Not even sausage.
We apologize for how long it took to get in. Our two groups of radios, in spite of many attempts to reprogram, just don’t get along, so we’ve ordered a batch of the better radios and that should speed things up considerable. Right now, you’d call someone on the radio, not knowing they were on the wrong radio, and they would stand there looking dumb like that last Tinder. That date also wore fluorescent green.
Sure, there were the usual tantrums from those who insisted on special treatment or those who insisted that their car fit the show. That’s normal! There was one pickup truck that had been turned down via email, yet, the owner thought it would be a brilliant idea to first come and argue with us, followed by parking in a designated fire lane not managed by us, just to make his point. He came off as the monthly very self-entitled kabob we get here all season. Royds shrink things and the truck won’t help.
We return to our regular lots once again and we’re there until our next event day, which won’t happen for a while. The reason German Car Day is so early in the season is because we have to give the event a long runway in case we see weeks of rain, which has happened in the past. We’ve had a great start to our season!
I want to explain why we pulled some cars out of line in what seemed like preferential treatment on an event day. The big challenge we face is getting the cars sorted on the center mall and it’s the only day we have this problem. We sometimes need a particular car to get in first so we can fill in other cars around it. In that case we’ll pull a car out of the lineup because it fits something we’re trying to solve. It’s to speed things up. We know it looked weird.
No, even though someone asked with a sense of self-entitlement, we do not give special treatment to anyone, including ourselves. We play by the same rules as all of you. We arrive very early, sort out our own cars before we let others in because we can’t do it during the show. Even the larger collectors are treated the same way, it all depends on what they bring. Someone got their nickers in a knot over location, but we do our best to make it work.
It was nice for me to get a chance to talk to people for a change. Because I do so much of the behind the scenes, I can’t also then make it out to every Saturday. Someone followed me into the bathroom to chat, which is a little weird. When people ask me where the bathrooms are, from now on, I’m going to say, “what’s wrong with this spot?” We get the question a lot and I always ask how bad are we talking here? They never appreciate it. It’s still funny. Unless you ate at Taco Bell.
We resume our regular lots again. Same entrance. The weather looks like it might hold, but we won’t call it until Thursday at 3, so come back then. Thanks for making German Car Day such a huge success!
