Yup, we’re on…and…

…we have an interesting car coming.

We may see some drizzle in the early morning hours on Saturday, but so far the forecast is holding up for another nice E@RTC! We had a perfect Italian Car Day, and a lot of spectators from near and far came out to see the show. It was a big crowd!

Yeah, as is often the case, we black-listed a couple of additional cars for bad behavior. They don’t seem to get the message we’re serious about our rules! They are then surprised when they show up to get in and discover that we saw their little indiscretion and turn them away at the entrance. Wha-wha!

Speed Record Car

Speaking of near and far, we have an unusual car coming to E@RTC on Saturday. Road & Track did a must-read article about this car; a car that shattered the old speed record and set a new one for driving through 48 states, in 86 hours and 19 minutes…on purpose. My mother did that by accident while looking for a place to park. It took her two years.

This is impressive for three guys and a car. Yeah, I know, a few Evergreen students who “allegedly” did it in less time on a bicycle while naked after some shrooms, but that’s a different story. They also claimed to walk on the moon, but that too is doubtful.

These guys beat the last car by two days because the old record holder probably stopped at Taco Bell the day before. Yeah, you kind of have to wonder about bathroom breaks. Or maybe not. I won’t ask. Some things you just don’t want to know. It’s a great story and we’re looking forward to seeing the car.

We keep having a few cars try and leave early and it is a problem for us. Please do all you can to remain until 11 AM. It makes life a lot easier for the volunteers and it makes for a safer event. If you’re going to leave after an hour, don’t come in, and just park in the spectator lot. It’s really disruptive otherwise and besides, you kind of fu*k up the feng shui.

Also, keep in mind, at 11, we send all cars towards downtown Redmond and keep them off of Bear Creek. We let that road be the sacred hunting ground for Redmond PD, who are doing a fantastic job of keeping the event safe outside our event. Thank them when you see them.

Don’t forget to move your cars at 11, so shoppers can park. The mall would love it if you’d stay and have lunch, but just be nice and straighten your car and remember the shoppers. If you park over in the horse shoe, you’re going to be just fine. Your doors are safe because it’s too far for door-dinging fat guys to walk.

I also want to thank our volunteers for doing such an amazing job and show up every week and help land hundreds of cars as usual, and for Redmond Town Center for all their help getting us squared away in the morning before we start. There is a lot of setup and cars get towed that were in the lot overnight. Ouch! It makes for a VERY long walk of shame.

Speaking of which, some dude woke up on the center mall outdoor couch at RTC as we were setting up, with nothing on but some shorts and a neck pillow. He had no clue where he was, and we suspect his best friends left him there after a party. It was kind of funny for us, but he didn’t look so happy about it. The only thing missing was a bicycle lock around his neck. It could have been worse. They could have been armed with Sharpies with some artistic skills. He got off lucky, assuming he found his way home. Who would you even call? Who remembers phone numbers?

BTW, RTC has been a real class-act and they have been an outstanding partner this season. Please shop there! It’s been a rough year for all the stores there and they could use the support. It’s important that we make this a win-win.

Also, we want to thank all of you for supporting us this season. We’ve had extraordinary backup from all of you who help us keep E@RTC in the right spirit. You help us keep bad behavior in check and it’s much appreciated. It’s how we keep the thing going. Thank you!
