And it looks like we’re…
…on for Saturday! This is more exciting than a fresh can of Pringles!
We had no idea what the weather was going to do on Saturday right up to this post. It was like Mother Nature was holding us down and dangling spit over our heads. She’s been a real bugger this year. One of you did something to annoy her, and I can’t imagine what it was. No, I can imagine. I just can’t write it here.
We had a very successful British Car Day and as always, we thank our stupendous volunteers for making everything run as smoothly as it does, and all of you for participating. We feel like a well-oiled machine this season, but not too oiled so we’re messy and annoying.
We have an excellent group that works well together and they have a lot of fun making it all run so well. We feel very lucky to have them. Sure they look better walking away than towards you, but we can’t have everything.
Thank you for writing us too! We love getting mail. The only angry-grams we ever get these days are when we set the bar on what does and doesn’t get in. You should read some of that mail! We can spot a howler the second it arrives just by the length. I’ve often thought we should post some of that mail. The format is the same each time. It always starts with the numbers produced, usually not in a range that’s particularly special, followed by all the other cars that get in that aren’t as special. That’s like saying you should date me because everyone else is uglier than a 74 Pacer.
One of these days, I’ll post the “best of.” We otherwise love the mail where we hear how much fun you had, or how nice the Thugs were that day, and we pass that stuff around. We all love the Thugs and the tradition that goes with the group.
Hey, one thing that’s very cool. If you look for stock images online of “exotic cars,” what you find are a lot of photos taken at E@RTC. I just started noticing how many come from our event! Bring your car and become famous!
We only have a few weekends left before our season comes to a close, so we hope you come out before we’re done so it’s not some big surprise. It matters before you disappear underground for the winter like a midwestern box turtle where you do nothing but look at dirt and wish for spring.
What makes our show so special are the relationships you all create with each other and the friendships that flourish as a result. That has become almost as important as the show. COVID reduced our ability to interact and make new friends and too many people go off and spend their time alone. Wouldn’t it be more fun to meet up and share that story about the time in Mexico when you pooped in a sink?
We’d like to get you out of that winter funk by making friends. We’re not out to just put on a car show, but connect people in meaningful ways. We’d love for you to make some real friends, like that snluggle buddy you had in prison.
We love to hear from you along with any suggestions you have about what we should do to improve in our upcoming year. We will need some marketing help in the 2023 season and want to get back to announcing special cars, but it’s all a matter of people. We’ll work on that stuff after our season ends.
For those that ask, no, we don’t have a hard date when our season will end. We look at the weather forecast at the end of September and when we see nothing but rain ahead, it’s time to stop. Redmond Town Center has to prepare for the holidays and that’s a lot of transition. We do hope you shop there all winter. It makes a big difference for the store owners who had a rough COVID season.
