And the show is..
Saturday, Aug 1st, we are off, but the Arts Festival is on.
NOT on for this weekend. Redmond Town Center is hosting their annual Arts Festival in Center Court, and we need to free up the lot so less interesting cars can park “normally.” I heard the famous art collector Ango Gobloggian may make an appearance (for my Always Sunny fans, IYKYK). Due to us being off, the Thug Weather Center 1 crew escaped- I mean, took some time off; however, they left the interns, and while restocking the Jolt Cola supply, we ran into them. They were so excited they were mentioned in the blog; they insisted on giving a report. In a rare moment of independent thinking, they remembered that next weekend, Aug 8th, is our double feature: German Day in Center and Paccar in the horseshoe! The interns are forecasting 82° and sunny for Aug 8th. We just hope Mother Nature keeps that promise and we get to see all y’all in your lederhosen and Trucker Hats.
In case you didn’t make it out to the show last week, you missed a good one. It was one of those days we were surprised to see what shows up. We had a Ferrari Daytona, a 430 Scuderia 16M, giving Vic a run for his money for the coolest Scud in the lot! A 1964 Maserati 3500GTI Vignale Spyder, a STO, a real GT350, an SF 90XX, an 812 Competizione, a stable of beautiful Italian Stallions. An overflowing row of Porsches, pre-funking for German Day with their fellow German car enthusiasts. The Horseshoe was packed with so much American muscle, I’m pretty sure we accidentally conjured up Hulk Hogan's ghost. Then the big surprise, swear we had no idea it was coming- the T50. Hearing, then seeing the T50 rolling down Bear Creek and Entrance Road was pretty incredible. If you didn’t get to see it in person and ask all the questions Roy could answer, you really missed out. Much respect to all of you for driving these amazing vehicles and supporting our show.
Aside from all those amazing standouts, there were a few others that may have stood out for other reasons. There were a few “fringe” cars last weekend that we let past the velvet rope. The big one we have to mention is the Mad Max truck. Can’t lie, it was a bit shocking to see that in the front of the line and the regulars hazing the guy. We always thought an atomic wedgie with a headband was a myth. Well done, guys, and to whoever won the bet on whether they will or won’t let him in... you’re welcome. “Nora” is what we consider an art car and qualifies based on the gatekeeper’s call on the day. It helped that there was a cool inspiration behind it, and the owner was a really nice guy, even after the hazing from the regulars. There was the S-Car; once we saw the Renault in line, all we could think about was a photo op, so… dealer's choice on that one and done. Then there was the Mirai; this was a little bit of compassion along with a logistical call. If you know what this car is you know that every second we left the car running, we put them in danger of making it home and having a dead car blocking the entrance. Seriously, rumor has it he has to get it to Canada to fill up. We do appreciate it if you have a fringe car; send us an ask in our email first so you don’t waste your time or valuable hydrogen coming out.
Even though we aren’t on for this Saturday, Aug 1st, we have some information for our drivers about the gate times. On non-theme days, we open the gate at 8 AM unless we have cars overflowing onto Bear Creek; then we open early. On theme days, we usually open at 7:30 to get ahead of the car volume on that day, but we close the gate on all days at 9:30 unless we hit capacity and have to close early. Why? It is for pedestrian safety. By 9:30, we have a lot of people in the lot with kids, dogs, and pet rocks, and we want them to enjoy the cars without worrying about getting too up close and personal with a bumper. Please don’t just drive in or commit the ultimate sin…crash the back gate.
