We’re on for Saturday and we’re Filming!
It looks like Saturday will be a terrific day. There will be a film crew at E@RTC to do a segment for the landlord. It would be a great Saturday to bring out that special car or go get a haircut or something before you show up. How about a good shower for once? Tweeze that unibrow! Go bronzing. George Hamilton up your morning! Be the Crispy Colonel!
We’re now moving into our dry stretch of the season. This is when it doesn’t rain for about the next two months. This is when the cars show up without tops. It’s the season when the no-heater cars come out with a minimum of hypothermia followed by loss of consciousness and some mild drooling. Expect to see a few Ariel Atoms come out along with Shelby Cobras and nobody is in need of warm blankets and an ambulance when they get here. It’s still a bit chilly for a drive, but it’s not like April. I’m talking about the month. Not the cold thing you date.
We always have a big turnout after a few rained out days so expect big crowds on Saturday. Yeah, the weather folks made a very bad call last Saturday. We know, we know. They do that to us now and then and we suspect they just have days when they say f*ck it and throw a dart at each other. When we get a nice weather window that always makes it easier to call. These narrow windows are hard to call no matter what.
People often ask, well why not wait until Friday night to call it? It’s because the event has a lot of logistical needs so we have to call it Thursday. We always have to fill the volunteer rosters to make sure we have enough people to make it all work. We tried waiting until the last minute, but that produced other problems. We’ve tried just about everything and this is what works best. We live with the bad weather calls. Some then ask well why not assume it’s on until Friday night? That’s because we don’t want to stop the volunteers and others from making their own plans. Ever Starbucks has to staff up, even though you’d never know it.
I’m now back from my big trip around the Midwest and Western States. Wow it’s fun to do these big road trips! I forgot just how much fun they are and how I want to be back out there. I’ve been doing them for so long that it’s easy to forget that with improvements in technology, just about everything else improves right along with it. You can easily find restaurants on your phone, places with the cheapest gas, hotels, and dates. I’ve not tried the dating part, but I can just guess.
The speed limits make it all very easy to pick off 800 miles a day without a problem, and that’s fast enough that you don’t get bored. Having made the drive in the Alfa Romeo, the biggest risk on my entire drive was the Alfa Romeo. It’s not like you can just pull in somewhere and get an oil and filter change. They will laugh at you uncontrollably, and point. Some will walk away shaking their heads like you just pooped yourself. How do I know this? Never mind.
It’s good to be home and it will be great to see everyone on Saturday. Thanks for being a part of E@RTC!
We’re losing two of our great volunteers. :(
Jared and Ashley Eades are leaving us as volunteers and moving to one of the more midwestern states. We thank them for all they have done to help us over the years and both sort of classed—up the place. We wish them the very best in their new location and we hope they make it back to visit us. Thank you Jared and Ashley for all the help these past years! Come see them off on Saturday and wish them well along with us.
And Another Thing!
We hate to say this but some are cutting in line. We’re not allowing that anymore (blue Corvette…this means you.) Please follow this beautiful illustration below for fun and enjoyment and the right way to show up! See you all Saturday!
