We’re On For…
…another Saturday morning, October 5, 2024 of E@RTC, and this could possibly end up being our last Saturday for the season. We will decide after Saturday. I know, this is like meeting Madonna—both exciting and disappointing at the same time.
It’s going to rain on Friday, but it should all be dried out in time for you to drag your butt out of bed and come see us. Come do it while you can. You never know who you might meet. Hopefully it’s not that “date” you once ghosted who is now there to bend your wipers into chicken feet.
I’d love to do a season-ending group weigh-in just to see how much all of you fatten up over the winter. You claim you don’t fatten up, but we see the stress on those jeans and we have the pictures from every year. You’ve been wearing that Lamborghini shirt just a little too long, and now it looks like a sausage casing at Oscar Mayer.
We don’t even want to think about closing out our season without thanking everyone who makes this happen—from Redmond Town Center, to Fairbourne Properties, to the fabulous RTC Security, to the stupendous Parking Thugs, the participants and spectators, and everyone who supports us online.
You’re not going to believe this, but our second-biggest group of followers isn’t from Canada. Nope. It’s not from Italy or other car-enthusiast countries that would quickly come to mind—nope, not at all. It’s Belgium! Of all places, and by a lot!!!
It’s not like we make weird little chocolates shaped like moose or anything. They make up 11% of our online audience! (They must think we’re funny… or weird.) Either that, or we’re the poster kids for how not to adult. We don’t know why, but we thank you for thinking of us and we hope you write and tell us why we’re so interesting.
I’ll get a letter that says, “Dear Tom, We think you’re funny looking… and we all remember your mom…
Sincerely,
Belgium”
You know, ever since I stopped making fun of mimes here they have been really quiet.
Oh, and just two people checked in from Fresno this season. Two! I wonder which two? We still want to thank them for never thinking of us.
I just thought of another good name for a band- “Bad Shrimp”
Remembering Brian Pollock
On a sad note, we were very sorry to hear about the passing of our good friend Brian Pollock, who was a part of E@RTC from nearly the beginning. Brian and Randy, along with their dog Baxter, would come out to E@RTC very often, and they were such a great part of the car family that makes up the Pacific Northwest car scene.
Brian would sometimes call and ask what he should bring out that people would love to see. He was always thinking of you when he’d come out. He was a true enthusiast and loved sharing his passion for cars with all of us. He was especially kind to all of the Thugs as we built the event over the years. He will definitely be missed, and our thoughts are with Randy and the rest of the family. We’ll miss you, Brian. Wherever you are- shiny side up!
