We’re calling it rained out early, and here is why…
Early in the week it was already looking like the chance of rain was going to be above 30% but that’s been dropping and who knows how it will change between now and Saturday. Sort of like your wedding. So, we’re pretending it’s storming like Katrina, except nobody will be standing on a roof unless they want to. Here is why.
We’ve made it eight weeks without a rain-out and our volunteers need a Saturday off. So, we’re calling off E@RTC for Saturday, August 7 a rain-out. We hope you all understand. Even with all the volunteers we have, it’s still tough to have enough to cover every single Saturday.
As it is, E@RTC is a massive commitment from the volunteers and we don’t want to burn them out. We deeply appreciate their commitment to put on a great show every Saturday, but now and then they need a break, so because of the weather, this looked like the right Saturday to call off.
This already has been the oddest weather I can remember, but, it’s not like we’ve been keeping records all that long. Last Saturday’s weather was just weird, especially when you look at forecast-to-actual. It was like two different days. It’s was like Mom Nature had a dual personality. Ever date someone who tells you one thing, while doing another? That was her last Saturday.
NOAA’s forecast was ultimately correct. They said it was just too warm and dry out for the rain to make it to the ground and they were right. Radar was showing rain, but we barely saw a drop before eight. We still had a great turnout in spite of the weather and overall it was a very nice Saturday. It was a warm morning with enough overcast to make for great photography.
Upcoming
Don’t forget, we have three big events coming up as we get closer to the end of our season. We have the Cadillac event, followed by Classic and Collector cars, and British Car Day. These special events always seems to confuse some people. Think of it as if you get ice cream every Saturday, and on those special occasions, you get sprinkles on your ice cream. Now do you understand? I was going to say you get nuts, but some of you have allergies and the analogy would sound creepy. We get a lot of mail asking when we’re having our next event, and we have to explain the whole thing all over again.
After this Saturday, we only have about six or eight Saturdays left before it’s cold and crappy for nine months, depending on what happens this strange weather year. Who knows, maybe we’ll run to December. We only give up when it’s not fun anymore and we’re sick of each other. Six to eight is not a lot of Saturdays before all the tearful goodbyes for the season.
The reality is, we never have an end of the season date, we just call it one day, and that’s it. There is never any point in planning a party. We tried that once, but we were rained out until opening day. See you in eleven days or less, depending on when you get around to reading this.
