Welcome to our first rain delay of the season…
…where you get to celebrate our first rain-out all by yourself or with your favorite couch muffin. We’ll try again next week… or the week after.
If you’re new, we cancel when the chance of rain is 30% or higher. And, if you followed us all these years, you know that with 30%, there is only a 30% chance they are right. We get it wrong once in a while when we call it, but we call it because they call it, and it ends up a nice day after all. You then call us and breathe heavily on the phone.
It’s always some kid who goes into a rant because they think people like to stand in the rain and talk about cars. No they don’t.
We could go for it and hope for the best, but turnout would be low and it wouldn’t be that huge party we all love on opening day. You know, people sometimes dance that shouldn’t. It’s painful to watch.
We usually call it on the Thursday before the event, but we’re calling Opening Day one day sooner because people come from so far away. For those of you born and raised in Fresno, that means we’ll call it on Wednesday instead.
I’ll be coming from Rogersstonvilleburg, MO and I’ll need a little extra time to get there. I’ll blog the whole way to Redmond, just to make it fun. But even next week isn’t looking so hot right now. It could be a few weeks before it happens.
Look at the map!
If you’re new to E@RTC, and you plan to show a car, it would be of tremendous benefit to you if you study how you enter the show, rather than show up in the wrong place and be sent around the block where you look like the new kid in school that everyone wants to slap. Study the map like it’s your pilot’s exam. Study the map like it’s your partner’s infectious disease history. Maybe not. The point is, you will save yourself a lot of time if you just get in line on Bear Creek and follow the other cars. Just follow the line of cars, but make sure you’re not near a Chick-fil-A or you may need to order some nuggets before you’re back on track.
We promise we will get you landed as fast as we can. Center Court doesn’t hold as many cars as it once did, so it will fill up a lot sooner, and we will be moving much faster because of our big experienced crew.
Just spend a little time reading our rules, and look at the map. We’ll give you a little clue. You enter one block east of the mall. The opening day line gets long and we move you right along so don’t get impatient. Besides, people love to take pictures of you in line.
Yes, the rumor is true, we do use spotters to watch for bad behavior before you get in. When we see it, you’re out for good. We radio ahead to Sean who then tells you to not come back. We’re guests of the community so we need to act like guests.
Exit
When you leave, follow our directions when we send you north into Redmond and not south towards Bear Creek. We send spectators north of the mall because we don’t want people racing along Bear Creek and we do watch for speeders and record them for additional bans. Redmond PD will be there to extract a significant sum from your wallet if you think acting up is a good idea.
There is always some window licker who ruins it for everyone and we therefore have a zero tolerance policy for all of Redmond. Behave badly anywhere around Redmond and we ban you from the event.
This will be our first “normal” season after COVID, so we think more people will come out and hit some of the local restaurants. These shop owners at RTC have been through a lot and yet they keep supporting us, so do us a huge favor and spend some time and money at the mall.
Stay tuned for the latest news as we try again next week. Let’s hope for sunshine!
