We are…
…rained out again because the forecast for April 8 calls for too much squish on that otherwise nice Saturday morning. We don’t care what anyone says, nobody likes standing in the rain without a good reason, such as helping deliver a baby or something. It’s otherwise just not fun.
No, we’ve not had opening day… yet! (laughing as I write this)
Thanks to so many of you, our April Fools prank worked perfectly and you kept it going all day. Some still think they missed opening day, and you’ve all done a fabulous job of letting them know how sorry you are that they missed it this year, but it’s time to let them off the hook and bring some joy back into their lives. They may need it.
The last time we did this prank, a guy from Sumner wrote me a scathing email about our not having our shit together. He called me names nobody has called me in oh, maybe two hours.
Overall, we didn’t get as much hate mail after the prank as we did seven years ago when we pulled the same joke, but almost. You’d think Sisters of the Immaculate Transmission would have been a clue, but now that I think about it, and based on my own experience with nuns, maybe not. We had a nun in school who’d push you through a wall just for something to do.
You also set a unique visitor record for one day on our website, so thank you for helping us keep that fun little thing going. We’ve never ever chased audience numbers on our site and yet we did achieve that new milestone. Our website is purely to support the event and have a good laugh at the same time.
Meanwhile, if it’s like last year, it could be a while before we get that first really nice Saturday, but we know it’s coming. That first Saturday has to be a very good day, and it can’t be marginal weather or we’re off to a bad start. This Saturday certainly isn’t it. We also call it when the window for good weather is just a few hours because from experience, that window never stays in place. It’s like trying to get a toddler to sit still except with clouds.
Redmond Town Center Changes
You may have also read that Redmond Town Center is about to experience a complete redevelopment and our existing parking lot will go away and become a mid-rise. We’ve had an alternate in the works since last season and assuming we’re not able to continue at RTC, you’re still going to be happy with our alternative, but it’s way too soon to say much more. It won’t be a step down in any way and it continues to meet our strict criteria. We have a lot of planning and other considerations before we announce anything. We will give RTC first shot at a solution.
Speaking of criteria, we’re getting about a half dozen criteria emails a day and we ask that you go to the criteria page first and check there before emailing us about criteria. It saves us a lot of volunteer time answering questions about criteria that’s right there with about 95% of your answers on our criteria page. When we do miss something, we’re quick to discuss it and get a correction to the page.
We are getting a few, as we do every season, who want to argue with us about their car, but that never goes far, and we mean no disrespect when we don’t think a car is a good fit. We’ve been doing this long enough to know what matters to all of you so we adhere to that at all times. You otherwise rip us a new one when we change the criteria. It’s okay. We appreciate the spirit of the feedback
We do welcome questions when you have them but check the site first for the answer. It’s all there somewhere. If that doesn’t help write us and if that doesn’t work, click here.
