Special Events!
Our season calendar of special events is up and running. For those who don't know, our special events are when we step it up a bit and use the center, side, and regular lots at Redmond Town Center. Think of it as the day we're fine dining. Fine dining in Fresno is any restaurant with a metal fork.
These special events are more fun and exciting than a fight over a toilet after “dollar delight” at Taco Bell. You step it up with a locked door.
We'll still add more special events to the season, so watch the calendar. This is just what we have on the board so far. We're going to try to have mini themes every Saturday if we can, and we're open to suggestions. We want to step up some of the fun.
We'd love to see something from Paccar again this season and the trucks they bring are always a huge hit. They have a standing invitation every year. As I said in the last blog, look for more themes this year for the Horse Shoe. (That's the area next to BJ's.) We're not going to turn that area into sacred ground, but it is a nice display area.
I was sitting here thinking how wonderful Redmond Town Center has always been to us since the day we began. It's a very big deal to us Thugs. It's been a fantastic collaboration, and it took time to build that relationship into what it is today; not just with the mall, but also with all the stores at RTC who support us. They do a lot of great things for us that often go unnoticed, and we're very thankful to have them.
For our part, we work diligently to keep the bad behavior to a minimum as we want to continue to be a bright spot in the community and remain a world class weekly show. We also get amazing support from the City of Redmond and have from the time we began so we want them to look good too.
There aren't a lot of truly community-created and supported events out there, and nobody has lasted in the weekly exotic and rare car event world as long as us. That's because of the help from all of you, and it's a genuine asset worth protecting. Think about what we all did together.
Of course, we get a few people who are part of the general grievance culture but that number has dropped every year since we began. The same kid who had a tantrum in the cereal aisle because mom wouldn't buy him Froot Loops, grew up to make demands on an all-volunteer event. Think about that. Like we owe them something.
They don't seem to realize how cool it is to have something like this without outside sponsorship, other than Redmond Town Center, and without any profit motive other than a love of cars and the people inside the culture. We're there to have a good time on a Saturday morning and want to have some laughs.
We do our best to ignore those who complain and never contribute. We do however like it when you offer suggestions on how to best improve and are willing to pitch in. It's one thing to ask more of us, but another to ask without anyone willing to do the work.
We're sometimes asked (no, told) that we should hang it up and fold into one of the for-profit clubs. Nope. Absolutely not. We'd rather drink cruise ship pool water. While we support all of the car events in the area, for-profit is not what we're about. From the very beginning, we wanted to get away from all that and build something with a vibe we could all look forward to on a Saturday morning. That's what's made this so wonderful all these years.
We don't make this event about us and never have. We make it about you, and we intend to keep it that way. See you Opening Day! I can't wait to see all of you.
