Saturday is Classic and Collector Car Day!

This coming Saturday, June 18, is Classic and Collector car day at E@RTC. This is more exciting than a Strolling Bones concert. Yes, all cars that normally fit the criteria are still welcome. It’s just that we put those classic and collector cars up in the center of the mall and along the side street and back to the main lot. All of this assumes the weather holds this coming Saturday, and so far, so good.

The Classic and collector car owners have some of the best stories to tell. Yeah, way better stuff to tell than that time you woke up wearing someone else’s undies that were much bigger than yours. We’ve heard that one before.

Now a bit about what is a “classic” or “collector” car. We’re generally thinking pre 1980. Yeah, someday well get to post 1980s cars, but right now most of those cars bring up traumatic memories for those of us who had one in college. I had a Fiat did 0-60 in 4.9. That meant the number of days it took to rust through a door before the 60 day warranty was up. I smelled like leaking coolant after every drive.

Wait until we’re mentally prepared before we relive the memories of our college junkers. We will allow for special circumstances if the car is well maintained and especially rare. You’ve got a perfectly restored Pacer, we want to see it, well sort of, not for very long, but you get the idea.

We don’t want to get into an argument about a perfectly clean Lexus LS400. They are still too common. We want it to be something cool. Just write us and we’ll sort it out. We now have plenty of people to help sort out email.

As for what’s a collector, we’re not talking about weird stuff you saved in the basement. None of us want to see your medical waste collection. We’re talking about any moving vehicle that’s got collector status that still fits generally pre 1980, but again we blur the line a bit if the car is interesting. A Unimog can be interesting if we have room. Same with old military vehicles. Bring a tank but don't screw up the asphalt. You get the idea. It’s when we can see come really interesting modes of transportation. It’s amazing what some people collect.

We will post if we’re on or off this Thursday, but right now, it’s looking decent and we’re now trending towards those months when it should be nice out. Still, the same weather rules apply as usual.

If you have an old classic that overheats at idle, park as a group near the old Bed Bath and Beyond and we’ll bring you all in together. Just let us know you’re there and we’ll send over a volunteer with a radio.

It’s ironical, as I was thinking about it. I was thinking about freeway driving rules and the left lane is now where you can get a ticket for both driving too slow and two fast, all at the same time.
