It Looks Like Two Weeks in a Row…
…that the weather is looking good for Saturday, so we’re on! This means our regular lots and not the center drive of RTC, in case you show up and are bummed we canceled, and kept it a secret from you. Look in the South East corner of the mall. You will see us there.
Okay, to the person who asked for the sheep’s phone number in our last blog, no. This isn’t Enumclaw. That’s, bahhahahahaad!
Lots of comments and emails, not to mention posts about those who behave badly at E@RTC. It’s wonderful to see the comment section getting such use and such strong support for shutting down the badly behaving children. I only had to delete the one post that was a single sentence slam, that was as cohesive and clear as dog poetry. We don’t mind if you have an issue to point out, but write us in a way humans can read. Even a recorded interpretive dance would suffice.
We heard another local car event was shut down due to bad behavior on exit. How many is that since we started, somewhere between 20 or 30? We’ll say it again, narcissistic tuners are the terminal cancer of all car shows. It’s just a matter of time before they kill your event, and it’s why we fiercely defend ours and have zero tolerance. I’d caution anyone who wants to go start a “cars and coffee,” which we are not, and see what shows up… and then leaves.
While the bad behavior is getting tracked down person by person, thanks to the car community, we also want to point out when someone’s car is misidentified. There are two olive green Audis in the area, the one with the gold wheels was not the car. We’ve traced the photos to the right car complete with photos of the driver and it’s not welcome back. We’ve been working on that since Saturday.
Yes, we now have more problems with Audi than any other brand, according to volunteer observations, but we don’t want to paint them all with the same paint gun. The car community sees who causes trouble and we need to focus on those few regardless of brand. Please help us in shaming them right back to their basements where they can pout over some soup.
We are not yet making changes to our entrance criteria but we are weighing our options to make sure our event remains problem-free sustaining our good citizenship as we have for the last thirteen years. Redmond PD will now be stationed on Bear Creek Parkway. In 2019 they caught that Audi group driving through Redmond that was not a part of our event and the whole town wept with joy. They were packaged up and sold at auction to other towns who were in need of fresh new village idiots. Probably Fresno.
We will continue to prevent cars from exiting onto Bear Creek and we ask that you be mindful of the apartments and condos around Redmond Town Center. Someone is probably asleep, tired and sore, and doesn’t want to talk about why.
For those waiting for something to happen along the Bear Creek tree lawn, you’re not likely to see much, and we ask that you not stand there for both your safety, and because it encourages the very thing that will force the shutdown of E@RTC. Besides, a Prius may come by.
We’re all ambassadors for the car culture and we want to get past the image of a large plastic bag of a**holes running around town looking for anyone holding a balloon. To most, that parading around town sound like a coked-up clown who was gifted a tuba, or a kid celebrating he finally grew hair on his BBs. That’s not what we’d even consider to be a high quality mating call. Oh, you might get some burly thing in a bib, but that’s about it.
For those who are new, as I said above, we now move to our regular season, which means we’re in our normal lots on the Southeast corner of Redmond Town Center. The entrance still remains the same for participants- the corner of Bear Creek and 168th, which is one block east of BJ’s Restaurant. For spectators, park anywhere else around the mall. The Archer Hotel will now be serving breakfast!!! Double-yum! This means you can park, go have breakfast and come back and only get in about 100 steps each way.
We do hope you spend a little money at Redmond Town Center while you’re there. They support us, so please support them. Thank you Redmond Town Center for your support.
You could buy a new dog collar! Who says it has to go on a dog?
Did you see how many stores in the directory fall into the category of health/dental/fitness? Wow, you could go in for a full body tuneup. Some of us would take a major overhaul, but it’s there! There is Pickles Playland where you can drop off your special love. Sorry, dogs only… Uh, to be clear, four-legged kind.
The North Cascade Highway is now open, so if you’re looking for something to do on Sunday, that would be worth your time. I’ve run the loop both directions and it’s a very different experience when you reverse it. It’s like two different drives. While we do not do drives, this is one that’s fun as a group as long as people behave. The chocolate dipped Nutter Butters at the candy shop in Winthrop are divine. It’s just a nice drive, but the loop is all day if you’re going to make some stops.
Many years ago, someone promised to buy ice cream in Winthrop for everyone who drove over. It got way out of hand, and there were lots of arrests, and every PD department was called in and was out in full force. The organizer had no idea it would get that crazy and it was a reminder of how bad drives can get. We did a few drives in our early days, but the liability was just too much, so we said no. There are some well organized drives around, Club Auto would be a good one through America’s Car Museum in Tacoma.
Another is Avants. Adam Cramer has done an outstanding job of building a cohesive car club and it keeps growing. We have deep respect for what he’s built because many have tried to do the same thing and failed over the years. Not only did he pull the group together, they are active.
Again, face diapers required on the lot. We know, we know… in spite of their never ever having been even one case of someone getting COVID in an outdoor event in Washington State. Not one! Grrrr…. I’ll get hate mail over that for sure. But let’s at least be honest about all this.
See you Saturday!
