It Happened Again!
We’re rained out two weeks in a row for opening day! We will try again next week. We had such a nice run of good weather too. I know, we all feel a little cheated. Dear Ms. Nature can be such a bee-itch you know, but she does have a fondness for gardening.
The good news is that you have one more week to de-chunk yourself on that crash diet so your Ferrari Jacket doesn’t look like a sausage casing. The only place you look good is Oscar Mayer. Right now you sound like a twisted balloon squeezing in and out of your own car. We know you’re worried you’ll need talcum powder just to squeeze back out, but we’ll be there with a rope and maybe a snow shovel.
The good news is that it’s more time for people to get vaccinated. There are about 330 million people in the US. We’ve ordered up 800 million doses. I’m assuming that’s to cover the second shot and then some extras just in case someone wants to go do it all over again for nostalgia’s sake. So why any masks or mandates at all if everyone who’s at high risk is already vaccinated? Hmmmmm?
Just bringing up the subject is like poking a badger with a stick…or last night’s hookup…or your significant other…or your mom…or someone you don’t even know. Really, nobody likes getting poked with a stick.
We’ve had a lot of email about our opening day and we’re thrilled that enthusiasm is so high. We still run the risk of a shutdown because of the politics of rolling us back to Stage 2. Is there anyone left who doesn’t think this is politics? I can hear some seething from here. Let’s just wish for normalcy combined with normality soon.
Redmond PD will be helping us out and we want to do all we can for them in return. The most important thing is to get participants and spectators be a good citizen around town. Don’t go revving, and please be courteous at all times. Police work has become a tough business so let’s help them out and give them an easy day on our Saturdays. We want community help in case we get some basement dwellers who end up causing trouble. Their battle call… “MOM, more Fruit Loops!”
It’s been nice to see more car activities going on during that stretch of nice weather. Makes you feel all kind of warm and fuzzy to see them out and about. Actually it was this sweater I was wearing with the heat on too high. Speaking of fuzzy…
I was out on a drive and heading towards me in the opposite direction on West Snoqualmie Valley Road was a beautiful classic convertible Buick. I think it was a Buick. I’m not 100% sure. It was built in the late 1940s, and was something spectacular to see out on the road! We gave each other a wave, and it made me grin thinking that car people are car people of all ages. He was as delighted to see me as much as me seeing him. It was nice to give a nod to someone who took the time to preserve such a beautiful classic.
We hold all the classic owners in high regard for being the preservationists and protectors of our automotive history. It’s why the America’s Automotive Trust and America’s Car Museum is so important. When they show up at E@RTC, we continually hear how it’s the first time people have ever seen these cars from an era gone by. Many of those old classics took a remarkable amount of handwork to make and think of the effort to preserve them in such incredible condition.
Damn it, now I’m craving Fruit Loops.
We will shoot for opening day again next week. We also received some new shirts so our volunteers all look the part. Some otherwise dress a little weird, and they scare people, so this should help that lot. Speaking of scaring people, masks will probably be required on property on opening day…whenever that happens.
