Another Nice Saturday…

Fourth of July weekend tends to be a big weekend for us. At least most years. We’ve had a few rain-outs and schedule conflicts, but most of the time, it’s lots of visitors from far away who come to see your amazing machines, so please come out! Remember that a lot of our spectators have never seen these cars before. Some could even be from Fresno.

You probably read our last post about what happened, and we don’t have anything more to add. Sure, there is a lot we’d love to say to those who posted the video, but that’s for another day. Let’s just say it’s best you not come back.

We do want to remind people that how we enter and exit is still important to the integrity of the show. Redmond Town Center would love it if you stay past 11AM, but don’t leave your car at an angle in the parking lot. The show is over at 11AM, so just straighten your car and all is well. Park as a group over by the horseshoe if you want, (not a real horseshoe) and you should all be fine. If security asks you to move, please be polite and just move. We’re their guests.

We’ve had a problem with too many people leaving early and it makes things difficult for us volunteers who are still talking to other people. Let us know ahead of time if you need to leave early. We don’t let cars leave without an escort. It’s for safety reasons. If there is no escort, you don’t leave on your own, and if we see you do it, you don’t get to come back. We’re all on radios and don’t miss a whole lot when it comes to that.

We’re serious about the safety of the event and we want you to first ask someone, then when they are available, they will do what they can, but know that sometimes we can’t get you out early because we have stuff to do too. We’d much prefer you remain until 11AM, and then follow our instructions on leaving and do not exit onto Bear Creek. That’s a huge help to us.

The reason we direct traffic into town is to reduce the bad behavior on Bear Creek. If we reduce the people standing along Bear Creek, there is no audience for the periodic morons who go racing by. When you do go racing down Bear Creek, you’re like that Swamp Donkey in a bar who thinks they are hot when the only reason people stare at you is because you look, well, like a Swamp Donkey. Besides, most of us, as you go racing by, think pool noodles are smarter than you. Our first thought is, that’s how you end up if you don’t study. And, the one who think you are cool, also didn’t study.

We’re always conscientious about the safety of everyone and so if you want to take pictures of cars leaving, head towards the old REI store, and they will go by slowly. Redmond PD is also there to help make sure there are safe exits out. We can’t thank them enough and love it when they are there joining us. We care about Redmond a lot, and we want to make sure people treat RTC and the city with respect for allowing us to be as big as we are. It’s not a lot to ask.
