Cue the Synth Drums….

Because this Saturday is Retro Day and we are on like Donkey Kong!! That’s right!! Mother Nature has punished us enough, for now, and has provided us with an awesome forecast for the rest of the week and this weekend. That means y’all need to get your best neon pressed, get those Members Only jackets and polos ready with those collars popped, and finally your best Jake Ryan poses in front of a 944. This will like, totally, like, get you like, totally past our like, totally Cro-Magnon security dude. Just kidding he is more Neanderthal (I think you all know Todd).

It’s wild that we all knew someone who actually talked that way, and honestly, it was harder to write than I thought it would be. I had to literally say it out loud and once again received the international sign of “you’re really uncool Dad” or the classic teenager eye roll. Attempting to explain did not help my situation any, and now I have to wonder if anyone has a large Dr. bill due to eye strain from eyerolling? Suppose I should Google that later.

This might be a hot take but, the 80s and early 90s weren’t exactly a beautiful era in car design. I mean, this is the era that brought us the Pontiac Aztec, Aston Martin Lagonda, Maserati Biturbo, and the rabbit hole of Yugo and other quirky failures. That being said, I know many of us had posters of our hero cars, Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini, and countless movie and tv cars, plastered on our walls next to that poster of Heather Thompson. She is the actor from Fall Guy, trust me, y’all know the poster, it’s as iconic as that Countach poster you had.

These are the images that fueled our dreams. The image of success and excitement they depicted, motivated many of us to become what we are today. Just by uttering the simple phrase “one of these days I’m going to have a…” many of us are driving the latest and greatest these brands have to offer, while in constant pursuit of the hero car from the past that drove us. With any of life’s pursuits there is always a caveat and us Gen Xers seem to get hit by that bus over and over again. Many of these hero cars of our youth were grossly underpriced for a long time and naturally when many of us have finally gotten to the point in our lives where we can or want to purchase one, the market gets nuts. The value on many of these cars, 308’s, 944, 928, and early, less desirable models, are all skyrocketing from what they were. We can assume this is somewhat driven by our nostalgia and desire to relive those memories while preserving the cars to make new memories with our families. I was fortunate enough to have held on to my high school car and can’t wait to pass it on to my kids for them to build their memories. I can’t wait for them to share their stories with other car enthusiasts and hope their stories start out with a lot less “So the cops pulled us over and…”

If you are looking to take that walk down memory lane or have a great example of a car from this era or other exotic, classic, or custom that meets our criteria, come out this Saturday to Redmond Town Center. We will also have our front lot full of all the non-era exotics, classics, and customs, giving you the best of all worlds. For those of you bringing cars, we recommend showing up no later than 8-8:15 if you are trying to make center court. We need to have center court cleared no later than 11:30. IF your car is in center, we would like you to make your way back by 10:45 so we can start clearing people and assist your exit. Please consult our criteria page to ensure your car is qualified or if not quite sure or something is not covered, please hit up our email and send a pic. This really helps our decision-making and makes for a quicker reply.
